KUALA LUMPUR: World number one Datuk Nicol Ann David lived up to her top biling by beating Delia Arnold in straight sets to win the National Squash Championship at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil here Sunday.

Nicol, the top seed in the tournament who was in a class of her own, strolled past Delia, the tournament third seed and ranked 23rd in the world, 11-4, 11-9, 11-6, to retain the title that she had won last year.

Nicol said that winning the first two games gave her the momentum to wrap up the match by winning the third game.

"This is the best game she ever played against me and I'm sure she will grow in confidence and become a stronger player after this," said Nicol.

For Nicol, the national championship was merely a warm up for the Malaysian Open that starts on July 18 at the same venue.

Nicol pocketed RM4,000 for her win.
