KUALA TERENGGANU: A 50 year old man was fined RM3,000 after he appealed responsible at a magistrate's court here to mistreating his nine year old son.

Wan Ibrahim Wan Embong was also placed on a three year good behavior bond.

According to the offence under Section 31(1)(A) of the Child Act 2001 provides for a maximum 10 year jail term and RM20,000 fine.

He was charged with hitting his son with a belt, causing injuries to the boy's left ear as well as bruises on his shoulders and right thigh.

The incident happened at 5.45pm on July 3 at their home in Kampung Kubang Tangga.

The facts of the case declared that the victim's elder brother interceded to stop Wan Embong from beating the boy.

Therefore, the elder brother lodged a report at the Chabang Tiga police station while an uncle took the boy to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for treatment.

The victim had been supposedly abused by his father over the past four years.

Magistrate Noradila Abdul Latif in sentencing Wan Embong said, "I reach this decision as the accused has a wife who is eight months pregnant and also has to take care of five young children."
