Mind-blowing
KUCHING: A 15-year-old girl from Engkilili, who made headlines after her body was dug out of a grave and striped naked three days after her burial, will be exhumed by the police.
The police will be taking DNA samples from the girl, who was five months pregnant and died of complications after a miscar- riage, in order to find new leads in the case.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC II Huzir Mohamed said the exhumation would be done very soon and her body would besent to a pathologist for further examination.
“We will use DNA to identify the father of the baby,” he told reporters yesterday.
When asked whether the father of the baby was suspected of digging up the corpse, Huzir said they were investigating every possibility.
However, he said, no one had been arrested so far.
The girl was referred to the Sarawak General Hospital and died of complications at around 9pm on June 2.
She was buried two days later in a Chinese cemetery in Engkilili.
When the girl’s family members visited the grave on June 6, as part of their tradition, they discovered that the body had been removed from the coffin.
The naked body was found on top of the coffin covered with a thin layer of soil.
Nothing was reported stolen from the grave and police had ruled out that the corpse had been raped.
PKR Women’s wing had called for an inquest into the death of the girl and urged the police to investigate the case as a statutory rape as the girl was underage.
State Commissioner of Police DCP Datuk Mohmad Salleh, who was also present at the press conference yesterday, said the police would explore all possibilities in their investigations.
Earlier, Salleh had met with police chiefs from throughout the state to discuss steps to be taken against the illegal Bersih 2.0 rally, which is scheduled to be held on July 9.
He said the police were monitoring the situation closely to make sure that the illegal rally would not be held to jeopardise the state’s harmony.
Salleh advised the public not to join any illegal assembly or be involved in any activities connected to the rally or wear any yellow shirts or headbands or anything that promotes the rally.
He added that the police had received 11 reports regarding the illegal rally and opened two files to investigate unlawful assembly under Section 27 (5) of the Police Act.
