PUTRAJAYA: Birth Certificates for non-citizen children will be red in color beginning today, the National Registration Department (NRD) said.
The color variation, pale green for Malaysian children and red for non-citizen children is to enable the general public to tell the difference and avoid confusion when identifying a child's status, it is said in a statement.
It would also prevent foreign nationals from having the notion that their locally-born children were automatically citizens by virtue of their Malaysian birth certificates.
Meanwhile, the birth certificates for non-citizens children who were already issued with the pale green certificates would remain so until they apply for an extract of the original, the statement added. -BERNAMA
